Adelphi were approached by a London advertising agency to translate and typeset a range of brochure for Jaguar and Range Rover. The languages were Arabic, Chinese and Russian. They required not only translation but also typesetting and proofreading too; the proofreading was to be carried out at their agency in London.

Translation and Typesetting for London Based Government Agencies and NGO’s

Adelphi has worked for a number of London based government and NGO agencies such as CILT (The National Centre for Languages) The languages involved in this project were Arabic, Somali, Yoruba, Gujarati, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Urdu and both Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese.

Adelphi are a preferred supplier to London based Amnesty International. After visiting Amnesty at their London headquarters to meet with their designers and project teams, we were initially offered their Eastern European language typesetting. The second project was for Kurdish Sorani, a right-to-left language used in Iran and Iraq.

Since then we have completed brochures in Croatian, Tamil, Cambodian, Albanian, Malay, Romanian, Romani, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Sinhalese, Indonesian, Russian, Portuguese, Georgian, Slovak, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Hindi, Bengali, Somali and Greek.

Adelphi were contacted by London based Overseas Development Agency because they had an Arabic translation of a document called ‘Humanitarian Exchange’, concerning the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories. The HPG needed this document typeset for print. They supplied us with the Quark file, together with the images, which we converted using Adobe InDesign ME (Middle East version) for typesetting in Arabic.

Adelphi also completed a 135 page document for ODI in French and Spanish providing translations and typesetting. “Thank you for the proofs of the French and Spanish editions. I have to say your typesetter’s done an excellent job.” was the response from ODI.

Technical Translation of Clinical Trials for a New Wound Dressing

A highly technical medical brochure produced in French. The original trials of the new wound dressing were carried out in the French division of the client. The document was created using MS Word and needed to be translated into English for the UK division. Word is not a particularly good application for typesetting or layout but we were able to retain the look of the original, thanks to our knowledge of all versions of MS Word.

Adding Foreign Language Subtitles to Flash Files

Adelphi Translations has produced many foreign language subtitles over the years but recently has received more and more requests to add subtitles to Flash movies. Macromedia Flash has become the default movie format on the web over the last few years and is the default format for most on-line film upload sites, such as YouTube.

Over 1 million words to date: German to English – Financial Translation for a Major European Bank

This was a complex project as the text was supplied in hundreds of scanned PDFs – the documents contained no ‘live’ text at all. This is usually difficult to word-count, but we do have the latest OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software which makes light work of turning text ‘images’ into live text that can be counted and edited. The final result is an identical copy of the original, with live text, which can be edited and translated in the usual way.

The example below is financial data for the Purchase Managers’ Index that we produce every month in Japanese for another translation agency that provides us with the translation and we typeset the document for them. The sponsor has changed over the many years we have been doing it. The original sponsor was Reuters, then it was taken over by the Royal Bank of Scotland and is now sponsored by Markit.

This packaging project came from a design agency based in Glasgow with connections to Saachi and Saachi, one of the biggest advertising agencies in the world. The product is sold in Boots in the UK.

The Project included: The translation and typesetting of packaging, brochures and posters.

The eye problem Evaporative Dry Eye occurs when the water in tears evaporates at a faster rate than normal, due to an insufficient oil layer on the surface of the tear film. A company has developed some new and effective treatments for the condition and had produced an information website about the treatments.

The translated website was produced for the American client’s advertising agency in close co-operation with their marketing department. The site can be seen at lipiflow.com.

The Project included:
Translation and typesetting of packaging and brochures and the conversion of the website. Artwork was supplied as InDesign.

“TB Alert is the UK’s National and International Tuberculosis charity – the only British charity working solely on fighting TB in the UK and overseas”.

The project comprised of nine brochures translated and typeset into 19 languages. These were: Albanian, Bengali, Farsi, French, Greek, Gujarati, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Somali, Kurdish Sorani, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese.
