Adelphi has been typesetting Chinese in both Mandarin and Cantonese for over ten years. Our in-house Chinese proofreader ensures that your Chinese typesetting is as accurate as possible. Chinese typesetting uses standardised fonts but there are two types Traditional (Cantonese) and Simplified (Mandarin) and the correct font must be used. Adelphi are happy to organise the translation for you or to use a translation provided by yourselves.
Both Chinese writing systems are shorter than English and so this should be taken into account when designing the original English documents.
Mandarin was the language spoken by Chiinese officials from Beijing and is known at the Common Language or Official Language. Today it is the language of government, education and the media in China and Taiwan. As with all other varieties of the Chinese language, there are disputes as to whether Mandarin is a language or a dialect.
Mandarin is usuall written using the Simplified Chinese character set which was introduced in China in the 1950s to help improve literacy in the country. Mandarin has four tones:
high level – first tone
rising – second tone
falling rising – third tone
falling – fourth tone
