Adelphi Translations has produced voice overs in many different foreign languages. We have our own in-house digital recording studio for foreign language voiceover projects, plus a portable digital recording facility if required. We can provide audio files in any format, including WAV, WMA or MP3. We can deliver the files to you via email, FTP or on CD or DVD. Adelphi Translations has produced voiceovers for many of the community languages in the UK including Hindi, Urdu, Somali, Chinese, Gujarati, Punjabi, Arabic, Yoruba, Farsi, Dari, Kurdish and many more.
CDs can only support one track therefore multiple language selection is not available, however DVDs can support multiple tracks making it possible to be able to select different language through an interface. For small runs we can burn CDs or DVDs in-house and design and print a label onto the disc. We also provide an interface where the language required can be selected from a list of languages.

Adelphi Translations have been producing flash files in Asian, European and Arabic languages for the past 6 years. Our in-house experts have recently completed Flash files in Japanese, Korean, Arabic and many other languages. Foreign Language Subtitles
Our multimedia department is set up to work on a wide range of subtitling formats. We are able to take your original video and recreate a working copy, which has foreign language subtitles, either on web video (including Flash movies) or DVD.

The process we go through to achieve this is as follows:
Transcription -> Prepare text for subtitle -> Translation -> Input foreign language -> Export Subtitle
We export subtitles that are compatible with your own authoring software. Alternatively, we can author the disc and provide you with a working foreign language version of your original CD. Subtitles can also be ‘burned’ onto the video when it is not necessary to provide a selection of languages, and you wish the subtitles to be permanently visible. This technique is often used for web video clips.

The level of Tamil voice-over required can vary. Some clients require high-level, BBC style Tamil voice-over artists for commercial use, others require just a clear reading voice, while some prefer a Tamil voice-over by a local amateur. The choice is the client’s. Depending on the subject matter, some choose a male or female for their Tamil voice and specify a specific age group.
At Adelphi we will try to accommodate whatever type of Tamil voice-over you require. We will either send samples of artists we already have on our books, or search for and record new voices for you to choose from. Adelphi Translations have become suppliers to Amnesty International providing typesetting services to them in Russian, Kurdish Sorani, Cambodian, Malay, Albanian, Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese. Typesetting Russian, Malay, Albanian and Portuguese is basically straightforward but Kurdish Sorani and Cambodian is trickier. Kurdish Sorani is a right-to-left language, written in a modified Arabic script, while Cambodian, also known as Khmer, has its own unique alphabet.

Typesetting Cambodian requires a knowledge of Khmer fonts and how they work in the most popular typesetting software. Fortunately, Adelphi Translations has lots of experience dealing with the more exotic fonts and scripts and we have done lengthy research into which fonts work and which corrupt the script, so you can be sure that Kurdish Sorani or Cambodian DTP done by us will be legible and accurate.
Portuguese Typesetting for Amnesty International

Arabic typesetting (DTP) involves using special versions of Adobe Indesign which will handle the right-to-left scripts. Farsi Typesetting (DTP), Dari Typesetting (DTP), Kurdish Sorani typesetting (DTP), and Urdu typesetting (DTP) all require the use of the ME version (Middle East) version of Indesign. These languages all use a modified version of the Arabic script. Hebrew typesetting (DTP) also has to be carried out in the ME version but uses its own unique alphabet.
We work for companies and organisations such as Disney, Vidal Sassoon, and Jaguar Land Rover, to list a few. Plus international aid agencies such as Amnesty International, Refugee Action, UNICEF and the Refugee Council as well as many translation agencies and publishing companies all over the world.
By using an IDML file exported from InDesign we can speed up the translation and DTP process when using translation memory software. This method keeps all the formatting from the original InDesign file such as links, character and paragraph styles and fonts plus any interactive elements such as cross-references.

Medical Materials Translation and Typesetting
Medical Website Translation
The translated website was produced for the American client’s advertising agency in close co-operation with their marketing department.
The Project included:
Translation and typesetting of packaging and brochures and the conversion of the website.
Target Languages: French, German and Dutch.
The original trials of the new wound dressing were carried out in France by a division of the client. The document was created in MS Word and had to be translated into English for the UK offices. Word is not a particularly good application for typesetting or layout but we were able to retain the look of the original thanks to our knowledge of all versions of MS Word.
French into English translation of Medical Materials
Adelphi Translations specialise in foreign language typesetting (DTP), and are especially experienced in typesetting complex and exotic scripts. Cambodian, or Khmer, is the official language of Cambodia with speakers in the tens of millions and its own exotic script. The Khmer alphabet was developed from the Brahmi script of ancient India. The oldest dated inscription in Khmer dates from 611 AD. Both the Thai and Laos alphabets were developed, in turn, from the Khmer script.
We have completed several Khmer Typesetting projects for Amnesty International.
Even modern DTP software, such as the now dominant Adobe Indesign, can have problems handling these less common scripts and research has too be carried out to ascertain which fonts will work in which applications to avoid character corruption. Here at Adelphi Translations we have done extensive research into which fonts will produce the best results in typesetting most Indian and African languages as well as Khmer.
