Typesetting for Amnesty International

Adelphi Translations became suppliers to Amnesty International providing typesetting services to them in over 80 languages. We produced hundreds of brochures and annual reports for them.

Subtitling for UNODC

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, through the United Nations Office in Vienna, asked Adelphi to add captions to their public services announcement (PSA) about wildlife crime. The PSA video called “Serious About Wildlife Crime”, was subtitled by Adelphi in German, Simplified Chinese, Lao, Arabic, Spanish, French and Russian. We have also recently finished adding subtitles in Thai and Vietnamese for them too. Click the video to play.

Voice-overs for Girl Rising

Adelphi produced Urdu voice-over with Urdu Subtitles for Girl Rising – a charity based in the USA. Girl Rising works with getting girls into schools to help end global poverty. The voice-over in the video below was voiced by our own Urdu voice talent Sati S, and the subtitles were handled in-house by Adelphi. Click the video to play.

Subtitling

Adelphi offers a complete English to foreign language subtitling service, working for advertising and design agencies, translation companies, e-learning and media organisations worldwide. Adelphi produces the translations through our in-house translation agency, then creates the SRT files, localises any on-screen text, right through to the finished subtitled video ready to publish. Adelphi is a one-stop foreign language localisation agency for all your subtitling needs.

There are various styles of Arabic subtitles that we can offer. Not just the style of Arabic font but also whether or not to use an opaque background behind the text or even a stylised background for dramatic effect or no background at all. We can advise you on the options available to suit your video and even produce samples for you to consider.

Localising any on-screen text and motion graphics on your video into Arabic. Depending on the individual graphics and the source software used to create them we could require the original data package it was produced in.

Working with Translation Agencies

We work with many translation agencies providing them with translations and subtitle localisation or we are happy to work with their own translation where we give advice on the length of translations, fonts for subtitling etc. This enables translation agencies to offer subtitle translations to their own clients.

Subtitling translations

Adelphi produces SRT files in any language, including making transcriptions of the source video before they are translated to create SRT files which are used to create the final subtitles. Some clients want only the SRT file so that they can produce their own subtitles while others want us to provide the finished subtitled video for them.

In SRT subtitling translation, our audiovisual translator (SRT file translator) would create translated subtitles in the target language directly from the source video. Our subtitle translator would then create SRT files that are used to produce burnt-on subtitles.

At Adelphi we have many years experience providing translations for media projects we understand the process to get the most out of your project, unlike other translation agencies who will have little understanding of translating for voice-overs and subtitling projects and often provide translations that are too long, not timed properly or that use fonts unsuitable for the software to be used.

Voice-over translations

These are a more specialist area when compared to standard translations. Voice-over translations must be restricted to fit the same time-slot as the original otherwise the voice-artist may have to speak faster to make it fit. If the voice-over is going to be used over a video of a different language, then the voice-over translation may include time-codes to help the voice-artist and engineer sync up the voice to the video.
